Yoga Nidra for Self-Healing

A 6-week virtual course

October 16-November 20, 2025

Yoga Nidra is a profound state of conscious relaxation in which the body, mind, and spirit are all tended to and self-healing is possible.

Self-healing certainly sounds interesting, but what kind of yoga is this?

Yoga Nidra translates to Yogic Sleep. This is a yoga practice that doesn’t involve any movement or postures. Instead, you are guided to trace your awareness through the five layers of being, according to yoga philosophy, which are:

  1. Physical

  2. Energetic

  3. Mental/emotional

  4. Intuitive

  5. Spiritual

Through this process of guided relaxation, you will reach the state known as Yoga Nidra, in which both the body and mind are completely relaxed, yet you remain awake and alert. From this deeply relaxed, conscious state, you’ll be guided to create powerful imagery for yourself, visualizing the life you want for yourself, planting seeds in your subconscious mind.

How does Yoga Nidra differ from Meditation?

Meditation is characterized by the active mental practice of watching thoughts and redirecting attention to a focal point over and over again. Many people struggle with meditation due to feeling overwhelmed by their thoughts and frustrated that they cannot “quiet” their mind. Meditation is often practiced while seated with a tall spine, whereas in yoga nidra, the practitioner is guided to get as comfortable and relaxed as possible, usually lying down, if they can.

In Yoga Nidra, the only goal is to try to stay awake and aware and practitioners are instructed to relax and follow the voice of the instructor. In many cases, people who struggle with meditation find yoga nidra to be much easier because of the near constant narration and instruction.

Diseases of both the mind and body put a great deal of stress on our nervous systems. The fear, frustration, pain, and discomfort that goes along with many illnesses turns on our fight/flight response, which in turn can perpetuate the symptoms we are experiencing.

Yoga Nidra is a simple, accessible, long-term tool to help reverse the effects of chronic sympathetic activation. This helps to promote homeostasis in the body, maintaining balance in digestion, immunity, and stress management. Yoga Nidra also activates the pineal gland, which in turn releases melatonin, a powerful antioxidant that regulates immune function, cortisol levels, blood pressure, and the quality of sleep. We’ll go over all of this in more detail during the course!

How can it possibly help with so many conditions?

What we’ll do:

In keeping with the value of experience over theory, in this course we will maximize time for practice. Each week, we’ll spend about 50 minutes on a yoga nidra practice, and 25 minutes reflecting and discussing. You will also receive an audio recording of the practice and will be encouraged to practice on your own between our weekly sessions, if you can.

Who it’s for:

This six-week virtual course is for anyone who is curious about the power of yoga nidra for self-healing. All ages, sizes, abilities, and genders are welcome. All you need is a comfortable place to relax.

When and where:

We’ll meet once a week on Zoom for 6 weeks, Oct. 16 - Nov. 20 on Thursdays from 5:30-6:45pm CT.

  • "After practicing Yoga Nidra with Naomi regularly for a few weeks, I now consistently feel my entire physical body, and my spirit, soul, essence, have a deep and profound, collective “sigh” of release when I practice. I can feel it making a difference for me on a deep, cellular level."

FAQ

Q: What if I can’t make it to some of the sessions? Will they be recorded?

A: Yes! All sessions will be recorded and you’ll have access to them on Google Drive for the length of the program, plus one week after it concludes.

Q: What if I fall asleep during class?

A: We will discuss ways to support you in staying awake during our first session. While it is ideal to stay awake, it’s okay if you fall asleep—many people do!

Q: What if I struggle with this practice?

A: it is okay to struggle. Yoga Nidra cannot hurt you, and many people who struggle at first find that over time, their experience changes.

Q: Do I have to have my camera on?

A: On or off during the practice is fine by me. I ask that you have your camera on before and after the practice for our group discussions and I am happy to discuss this with you, if you’d like.

Q: Why are you qualified to teach this class?

A: I completed a 32 hour Yoga Nidra teacher certification program in March 2025 with Dr. Marc Halpern and Dr. Andrea Deerhart

Q: You didn’t answer all my questions, how can I contact you?

A: Right here!
