Happy June!
Wow, it’s June! I hope you are enjoying this lush time of year, where the days are still not too hot (hopefully!) and just keep getting longer and longer! How are you taking advantage of the warmer, longer days? Some lovely dinners al fresco, perhaps?
AYURVEDIC TIPS FOR PITTA SEASON:
Summertime is bursting with vibrant energy, and most people find it easier to rise early in the morning at this time of year. This is a natural and beneficial rhythm to embrace. Early morning is also the best time for exercise.
Before you bathe, massage the skin with a light coating of a pitta-soothing oil, like Coconut Oil or Neem Oil to calm the nervous system and cool the body.
Essential oils of jasmine and khus are good fragrances for the summer, or you may enjoy a rosewater spritz to calm, cool, and refresh your mind.
Dressing in light, breathable clothing made of cotton or silk and favoring cooling colors like whites, grays, blues, purples, and greens will help you counter the intensity and heat.
Summer is ideal for spending time in nature, but when you do go outside, wear a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to shelter yourself from the intense sun.
On especially hot days, there is often an afternoon lull in energy, and you may find that a short nap is beneficial.
It is best to retire by 10 p.m. or 11 p.m. to avoid an overly stimulated mind and lying on your right side will activate the lunar pathway in the left nostril, which is calming and cooling.
DATE IRREGULARITIES FOR THE MONTH: IMPORTANT!
There are five Tuesdays and four Thursdays this month, and we will meet for all of them.
Coming up next month: I am taking the week of July 6th-10th off. There are four Tuesdays and five Thursdays in July, so the extra Tuesday in June will make up for the lost Tuesday in July, and July works out, as we will just meet on July 2, 15, 23, and 30.
COMMUNITY SESSION:
We didn’t meet this month, so we will continue in June with Satya (truthfulness), meeting on Sunday, June 28th from 3-4:30pm CT. You may read the appropriate chapter in The Yamas and Niyamas: Exploring Yoga's Ethical Practice if you like, but it’s not required - we will also read parts of it together. Remember, this group is free, so invite anyone who you think would be interested!
MEMBER SPOTLIGHT:
You all have been so wonderful to have in Homecoming! What a treat it has been to have these extra connection points together, exploring self-love. I so appreciate you all!
AS ALWAYS:
The links to Gentle/Restorative and Dynamic Yoga are always the same, the link to Yoga Nidra is always the same, and the link to the community session is always the same, so it doesn’t really matter which date you click on - but the calendar dates are all accounted for with individual events below. Let me know if you have any questions!
Thank you for honoring your membership level and only attending the classes you’ve registered for. We are working on the honor system! If you’d like to change your subscription level, please email me at naomi@naomifinkelstein.com.
