Yoga Nidra for Self-Healing

A 6-week virtual course

October 16-November 20, 2025

“There beneath all the thinking and doing, you are at peace. You ARE peace. YOU are the peace you’ve been looking for all along.” - Tamara Verma

We live in a society that pits us against our own bodies.

After all, it’s tough to sell wrinkle creams and weight loss drugs and plastic surgery when people are happy with the way they look. Make the body the enemy and you’ve got a whole lotta people ready to fight against themselves…with their credit cards.

But the impact goes far beyond how we feel when we look in the mirror. It is felt in our bones, this alienation from ourselves. A body here, a mind over there, a soul somewhere else…disparate, fragmented pieces of a self, floating—untethered from one another.

Then we throw trauma into the mix and the chasm grows deeper. Fear lies waiting in our tissues, our systems constantly on edge, ready to pounce in self-defense at the merest hint of danger. Walls built tall and thick to protect our soft, squishy centers, the most vulnerable, beautiful parts of us.

Maybe you’ve wondered if yoga could help bridge this divide, but classes have seemed inaccessible, intimidating, unsafe, or just plain unappealing.

Maybe you feel nervous, anxious, excited, uncomfortable, vulnerable, or worried at the prospect of going to this type of yoga class?

What if the teacher isn’t a good fit? What if I am the biggest/least flexible/least experienced one in the room? What if I can’t keep up or what if I push myself too hard and end up hurt? What if I’m bored? What if it’s all just completely overwhelming and I don’t know what to do?

Maybe you have had negative experiences in group exercise classes before…maybe you’ve had teachers who made harmful comments or you felt your boundaries weren’t honored or maybe you didn’t even know how to establish the right boundaries for yourself…maybe you still don’t.

So many of us have painfully complicated relationships with our bodies/movement for all sorts of reasons, and we are in desperate need of a place where we can gently and safely explore with the support of others who understand.

In Befriending the Body through Yoga, we will begin to bridge the divide.

In this trauma-informed, ten-week program, you will be invited to explore movement and body awareness in a soft, gentle way, with guidance on how to keep yourself within your comfort zone, AND how to safely stretch and expand it. Each class will include thirty minutes of discussion/education and forty-five minutes of practice, along with journal prompts to help you reflect between classes.

This is a program for anyone who is interested in (re)connecting with their body in a supportive, virtual setting. People of all ages, with all levels of experience, all sizes, genders, and abilities are welcome. This is a fat positive space, which means that weight loss is not celebrated, natural body diversity is embraced, and group discussions will be managed accordingly.

This program includes:

  • 10 weekly group sessions, meeting on Tuesdays from 6-7:15pm CST, October 7 - December 9, 2025

  • Access to class recordings

  • Access to two other live, weekly classes during the second half of the program

  • One-on-one support sessions offered at a discounted rate throughout the course

What and When?

Class breakdown:

*The Yoga Practice

As a participant, you will regularly be reminded to make whatever choices feel right for you in the moment, with absolutely no pressure whatsoever to do anything that doesn’t feel good or right. This program is meant to empower you to honor your needs and desires when it comes to your own body and may be a very different way of engaging with movement than you have previously. Depending on past experiences, this approach may feel confusing for some people at first, but over time, you will begin to learn the language of your body and your nervous system, which will offer clearer and clearer guidance and insight for your practice.

Participants may practice on the floor or in a chair and various options will be offered throughout each class. Seated versions will also be offered along with all standing postures. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns about accessibility.

  • 6:00-6:15: check-in and intention setting

How It Works

I offer equity-model pricing, which allows more access to my programs, while still keeping them sustainable for me to teach. You are invited to choose the pricing category that best reflects your financial situation, no explanation required. Please keep in mind that when each person pays to their full ability, it creates more equity. Also remember that when you invest appropriately for your situation, it often inspires you to get the most out of the experience.

FAQ

Q: What if I can’t make it to some of the sessions? Will they be recorded?

A: Yes! All sessions will be recorded and you’ll have access to them on Google Drive for the length of the program, plus one week after it concludes.

Q: Is this a beginner’s class?

A: This is a class for people with any amount of experience practicing yoga. The practice will be slow and gentle.

Q: What if I get activated/triggered during a class?

A: You are encouraged to take care of yourself in whatever way you need. That could look like turning your camera off and wrapping yourself in a blanket for support, leaving your camera on and getting up to get some water, etc. If you need to leave class early, I ask that you send me a private message in the chat if you can and expect me to call you after class to check on you. In our first session, we will discuss ideas for how you can prepare to have the support you need during and after classes.

Q: Do I have to have my camera on?

A: On or off during the practice is fine by me. I ask that you have your camera on before and after the practice for our group discussions and I am happy to discuss this with you, if you’d like.

Q: Why are you qualified to teach this class?

A: I taught classes just like this multiple times a day for a year and a half at a partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP) for clients struggling with eating disorders, anxiety and depression, and (c)PTSD.

Q: You didn’t answer all my questions, how can I contact you?

A: Right here.

Your body is waiting for you to reach out a friendly hand.
